Today’s Whiteboard Friday focuses on the fact that SEO and Social have different ideas of what a title tag should be, but often times only one title tag is used across the board. For example, SEOs focus on keyword rich titles that appeal to robots and improve rankings. Social Media Managers, however, often focus on shareable content and visuals that appeal more to readers. Despite these differences, the same title tags are often used across the board- on blogs, Twitter, Facebook and more.
In the video below, Jen Lopez from Moz explains the benefit of mixing it up and creating separate title tags for each platform. While you may want to focus on keyword rich titles for your blog, that might not be the most enticing thing to your followers on social media. Instead, by creating a title tag specific to social, you will be able to make both robots and real viewers happy.

What about content?
While title tags that work for both SEO and Social are important, let’s not forget about content! As high quality content continues to become more and more important, it’s crucial that we not only write for the search engines, but write for our target audience. Of course, include keywords that detail the theme of your page, but don’t be afraid to think outside the box and create killer, shareable content. By doing both of these, you will no doubt reach the “happy place.”
