Andy Kelly, one of our project managers here at Ignite Visibility, noticed a new fetch as Googlebot option today, “Mobile: Smartphone – Upcoming.”

This mysterious new option has the SEO community wondering… What is upcoming?
You can use this option just like you can the rest of them. It appears to work.
I was able to complete a render request for the Ignite Visibility website. It seems to work just like the other option.
So now we are all left wondering. What exactly is “upcoming?”
Is it AMP related? Is a bug?
This has me in complete befuddlement. I believe what it’s saying is that their is a new type of smartphone . . . upcoming? Perhaps Google is going to position themselves to release a new device themselves which may show preference for their product. I’m not sure; but I sure am interested! Thanks for the news. – DDM
This is truly something which makes curiosity. Google is going to update it’s second mobile update very soon, most probably by April, 2016. Is that new Search Console fetch as Google feature related to this new update? This is going to be very interesting to see whats new in this feature. Hopefully Google will publish some documents for the same. Looking forward to read more about this new option.
Oh weird. Upcoming? I have only been using the search and render as Googlebot for a few months now. I had not noticed that yet. Google does so many crazy, random and secretive things.
