Streaming media players are becoming more and more popular in our tech-driven world. They are great alternatives to paying for expensive cable television. They also provide a convenient, cost-effective way to stream all sorts of media for anyone with internet access. For quite some time now there has been three big names standing at the top of the media players/boxes game: Apple TV, Roku, and Chromecast. However, Amazon has recently made a push to get its slice of the pie. The Amazon Fire TV will provide heavy competition to its competitors as it features an option to do voice search when searching for movies, music, television shows, and so forth.
With that said, the other three will need to step their game up. There have already been rumors that Apple is going to add quite a few new features to the next version of the Apple TV. In response to Amazon’s voice activated controls, Apple is expected to bring the well-known Siri aboard the Apple TV ship. Mashable recently reported that “A line of code found in Apple’s iOS 7.1 software development kit indicates Apple may have plans to add Siri functionality to its set-top box.” Along with the addition of Siri, we may expect to see Apple implement an app store for the Apple TV. The Amazon Fire TV allows videogames to be played on it, so the addition of an app store for Apple would be a direct retaliation.
I actually have a streaming media player myself and love the simplicity and convenience it offers. I have tons of movies in my media library on my laptop and I can easily stream it through my media player onto my television. There are apps that make this process a whole lot easier too. The Plex App allows you to organize and stream all of your media and even share it with your friends. Plex is super cheap to use too and is definitely one of the better apps to use for media storage and streaming.
It is quite apparent that these media streaming devices are going to continue evolving and expanding in their market. This is definitely something for us Internet Marketers to start thinking about. What will be the most effective strategies in optimizing apps for these devices? How will we use these streaming devices to further expand Internet Marketing services for our clients? Let us know your thoughts!
