Social Media Analytics is essential for any business as it provides useful insights into your demographic, such as their interest, frequent interaction times and much more. It’s more than looking at Likes and Re-tweets, social media analytics gives you in-depth knowledge for future strategies and allows you to tailor your content to your audience.
I will provide examples from two social media platforms that have led to successful marketing campaigns.
Facebook is one of my personal favorite insights as it goes beyond scratching the surface with their analytics. Your Facebook Insights data can go as far back as a year and ½ ago.
For a basic overview, you can immediately check out the Page Likes, Post Reach and Engagement for the week.
It’s essential to monitor your engagement for your post and monitor your peak times of activity so you can tailor your content around the users and get optimal views
Knowing your audience is great as you can harness your social post for relevant content and that information for tailored ads as well.
Example: Dreyers is a strong brand that knows their audience, their audience’s interests and has crafted content that is high quality and relevant.
Youtube
YouTube viral star, Zach King said from Social Media Day said that “analytics is the backbone to my videos.” King frequently references his analytics to see what he’s doing right with his viral videos.
Beyond monitoring the amount of views on your video. It’s important to know these items off the top of your head:
- Where your sources are coming from
- Your audience demographic
- Subscription rate
Playback locations report shows the page, site, or device that the video was viewed on. This is great to monitor as you can see where people repeated something in your video or stopped watching. This can prevent future errors.
Youtube also provides further information on views from embedded videos and much more. I am a huge advocate of YouTube analytics as the information is in-depth and valuable.
Example: King knows his audience very well and seeks to evoke a smile, which leads to a share. He keeps his video short, sweet and humorous. His quality content leads to a flurry of views and subscribers.
