Is Facebook Building a Search Engine?

March 31, 2012 By IgniteVisibility

People have been asking the question, “Is Facebook Building a Search Engine?” all over the Internet. If Facebook was building a search engine this would have massive implications. It would damage their relationship with Bing, it would deepen the dispute between themselves and Google, but more importantly to them, it would give them a whole new multimillion-dollar revenue stream.

Is Facebook Builing a New Search Engine

So is Facebook building a search engine? The answer is YES!A team of more than 20 Facebook engineers — led by a former Google programmer — is at work on a vastly improved search engine within the site, according a Businessweek report. This is really big news. Right now the search engine in Facebook is very ineffective. If they can revamp this search engine to provide great results the following things could happen.

Users will leave Facebook less to perform searches on Google, Yahoo, Bing etc.

Facebook will create PPC advertising opportunities that are search based.

Bing may choose to sever ties with Facebook and remove the Facebook data in search.

Is Facebook building a new search engine? The answer is yes. It will be fun to watch this search engine come to market. When it does the race to control the Internet will only become more intense.
