How to Manage Multiple Social Media Accounts: Tips & Software

June 30, 2021 By John E Lincoln

How to Manage Multiple Social Media AccountsIt’s easy to get lost in a sea of social media accounts, but efficiency isn’t out of reach.

Want to manage multiple social media accounts like a pro? Then you or your social media accounts manager should take these tips and run with them.

7  Tips to Help Any Social Media Accounts Manager Deal with Multiple Accounts Efficiently

1. Connect Accounts

When you decide on the right social media management software for you, consider its ability to connect your accounts to one feed. You don’t necessarily need third-party software to do this, though.

Because Facebook owns Instagram, you can connect your accounts on both platforms. This way, you can publish Instagram posts on Facebook. You can also invite Facebook followers to follow you on Instagram.

The same goes for Twitter, which Facebook also owns. You can connect your LinkedIn to Facebook, too, though Microsoft owns LinkedIn.

2. Create a Content Library of Approved Assets

Consistency is a huge part of any content strategy. Even though you’re posting to slightly varied audiences on different social media platforms, you’ll want your branding to remain consistent.

That’s why you should create a content library. Fill this library only with approved assets that are ready for use.

Some software options make it easier for you to do this, but you don’t necessarily need a specific social media application to create your library. Something as simple as Dropbox or an internal file system can do the trick.

3. Create a Schedule of Social Content

Pumping out content on a regular basis is a huge ingredient in social media success. The best way to do that is with a content calendar. The calendar will serve as a foundation for you to schedule posts on different platforms in advance.

A content calendar will also help you craft unique content. For example, Twitter and Instagram are very different platforms: one is text-based while the other is image-based. While scheduling, take the time to add images for Instagram and optimize captions for Twitter.

Additionally, a schedule will help you keep track of posts in a series, plan out future content, and report on past content.

This schedule will require approval, so be sure to add content calendar approval to your overall to-do list (or have a colleague do it for you).

Using a schedule will help you launch campaigns across platforms and build brand consistency. For a social media accounts manager, these two factors take you far.

4. Once Approved, Schedule Social Content

After your social content schedule has been drafted and approved, you can schedule the posts.

While there are common peak times to post on different social media platforms, the best time to post will likely be unique to your business. Analyze your social media data to see which days and times experience the highest engagement.

Scheduling for all channels in advance takes out the guesswork, but you’ll still need to remain on your toes in case of unexpected events that require you to pivot your strategy. Poorly timed social posts can do more harm than you realize.

5. Set Up Automation Settings

Some social media accounts get a record volume of engagement. Hundreds of questions a day are far too many for just one person to comb through.

Look into setting up automation when you can.

  • Spam Comments: You may be able to create a rule that automatically hides spam comments and assigns them for further review.
  • Saved Replies: If you notice patterns in the same questions being asked, create a rule with saved replies that you can use with a single click
  • Branded Hashtags: Create and follow branded hashtags so you have easy access to user-generated content

6. Engage with Your Audiences

Actively engaging with your audiences across multiple social media accounts can be a real challenge.

To do this, understand the unique needs of each audience. Communicate in the way that best promotes further engagement.

For Instagram, that may involve hosting live Q&A sessions or responding to comments. For LinkedIn, that may include the following key terms or hashtags. For Twitter, you may want to track mentions. The list goes on, and you’ll need to find what works for your brand’s social media accounts.

7. Review and Report Consistently

Your multi-channel social media strategy should not be stagnant. Instead, it should evolve and respond to changing audience needs.

Start with a monthly meeting to see if you need to adjust your strategy for managing multiple accounts. You can eventually move to a quarterly system.

Over time, you may need to add more team members, change up your engagement strategy, or switch your posting schedule. This is normal and reflects your willingness to adapt to the ever-evolving social media landscape. Utilizing reporting data is key to defining a strategy that actually works.
