PubCon is an excellent event that attracts Internet marketing experts from across the world. This year, Matt Cutt’s, head of webspam at Google, revealed some exciting news about the future of Google and search engine optimization.

Important SEO Points from PubCon 2013

  • Google is working hard at fighting blackhat SEO
  • Mobile is going to be critical in 2014
  • There is supposed to be a huge SEPR refresh
  • We will see 15% or more of authorship go away
  • Google is getting better at Javascript
  • Google is working hard to establish entities and connect things online
  • Google has softened the Panda algorithm
  • Google is working hard on machine learning and artificial intelligence
  • Google is working hard to establish authority for top sites in a field, you need to be an authority on a topic
  • Google is tailoring certain content to certain smartphones based on their capabilities
  • Penguin 2.0 and 2.1 launched
  • Trying to take down payday loans and other very shady searches
  • Working to take action on advertorials and native advertising (taking action on newspapers)
  • Google is taking down spam network, they have a list of networks they are taking down
  • Google is working on new videos to help people (malware, guidelines for content, etc)
  • There is a new website called how search works
  • Google is going to continue to improve machine learning
  • Google is going to keep trying to add value their site, independent of search.
  • In 2014 40% of traffic to YouTube will be from mobile phones
  • In some countries, mobile traffic has already surpassed desktop
  • Mobile traffic will eventually surpass desktop everywhere
  • In the long term, having good social signals will be one of the most important things for Google SEO rankings
  • By being an authority and an expert, you will get social share and better rankings
  • Over the next 6 months, Google will be working on things most people wont see
  • Google is working on the next generation of hacking detection to fight really tough terms that get hacked all the time
  • There is no PageRank scheduled update for the rest of the year
  • Everyone needs to get a mobile website, everyone needs to get rid of flash
  • Request Autocomplete should be focused on, it will help people fill out forms much faster. This is a new standard. You can fill out a form in one click.
  • Google is working on a new version of ad heavy pages algorithm to hurt sites with way to many ads too high on the page
  • Google will only be looking at high quality authors, and will get rid of the low quality authors in search listings
  • Google is going to take Rich Snippets into account when looking at the quality of the website
  • Google is getting much better at executing Javascript. You can use basic frameworks now
  • New @googlewebmastercentral Twitter account
