Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve noticed several new Facebook movies on your Timeline in the past few days. For the celebration of Facebook’s 10 year anniversary, they decided to present a clean, innovative and creative look at users’ past years on Facebook.
The one minute movies take a ‘look back’ at a user’s first moments, most popular posts and photos that have been shared since they joined. Set to music, the movies are actually quite impressive. Depending on what Facebook deemed most important, many of the movies are actually very nostalgic and sentimental. One emotional Look Back chronicled the relationship a woman had with her marine boyfriend before his death.
Facebook revealed that after the new feature was rolled out, hundreds of millions of users watched and shared their Look Back video. The trend is even picking up speed and, although the feature has brought joy to many users, some are growing tired of the one minute videos being all friends seem to post.
To seemingly keep the popularity of the movie running, Facebook has now revealed that the videos can be customized. This is great news for people who were unhappy with their videos or feel that the Look Back didn’t properly share their experience on Facebook in the past decade. With the ability to edit, users can choose different photos or posts, but don’t have the luxury of choosing just any photo as Facebook has pre-selected a group to choose from.
‘Look Back’ Tip
Do you want people to actually watch your movie? Use the edits strategically and they can work to your advantage. While the edits can be fun and improve some users’ movies just a bit, that doesn’t stop people from getting a little tired of seeing so many. For business owners or even those with personal accounts, use the edit feature to select posts and photos that involve other people who have impacted you or your business in the past few years. By including other influential people and friends, your Look Back becomes less about “you” and more about the people who have helped shaped your journey. Make sure to tag those friends in your post and allow them to feel a little nostalgic too. Who knows? Your Look Back might get a little more popular than you’d think.
