Last Fall, Pinterest teased about the plan to try out Promoted Pins. And now it is available—sort of. Pinterest is beginning to offer their first paid test, in the U.S. only, to a small group of major brands from different industries, including:
- ABC Family
- Banana Republic
- Expedia.com
- Gap
- General Mills
- Kraft
- lululemon athletica
- Nestle – Purina, Dreyer’s/Edy’s Ice Cream, Nespresso
- Old Navy
- Target
- Walt Disney Parks and Resorts
- Ziploc®
Pinterest said they wanted to keep it to a smaller group in order to collect as much feedback as possible and are planning to open it up to more businesses throughout the year.
Prior to Pinterest’s announcement, they had be testing Promoted Pins across its web and mobile properties – refining the experience in ways so that it wouldn’t upset Pinterest’s user base. According to TechCrunch, these ads have been showing up in the search and category pages on Pinterest. However, they don’t appear in a user’s main feed, which is the first thing they see when they sign into the service.
We’re excited about the possibility of promoted pins and can’t wait for them to open it up to a wider base!
