Who says Facebook is dying? Facebook remains on the cutting edge with its new app, Paper, which not only rethinks storytelling, but changes how you access the site.
Customized information and social media has just been redefined. Paper is a standalone app from Facebook and seeks to compile news and content into sections tailored to the user’s interests, much like a newspaper.
Content will not be written by the Facebook team and instead will be derived from quality sources such as, USA Today, Sports Illustrated, expert bloggers and much more.
Facebook said the app is slated to launch to the public on February 3rd, the same day before Facebook’s 10th birthday.
This app makes complete sense as Facebook, is not only great to connect with friends, but users are now also frequently flocking to the site to see breaking stories, feature articles, funny memes and more that circulate on the News Feed. In addition, Facebook has not ignored the fact that many of its users are mobile and want quick, interesting and easily digestible content. They have definitely rose to the occasion.
As far as navigating the app, users and welcomed with a re-imagined News Feed. Users can swipe their screen from right to left to browse through the stories. The top half of the page features photos and videos and the bottom half highlights status updates and link stories. The original Facebook functionality comes into play and users can Like, Comment and also Share the content in the new app.
The biggest draw of the app is where you can add “sections” to your own Paper, such as sports, cute animals, photography and business.
We’re very excited for this new app as it just puts a stronger emphasis on high quality content. What are your thoughts on the new app and will you be downloading Paper when it releases?
